Zaara Mir
I am a second-year medical student with a strong academic interest in psychiatry, particularly in the cognitive and behavioural mechanisms that underpin mental illness.
I currently hold two committee roles: Social Secretary and Publicity Officer for Imperial Medics Women’s Football Team. Managing both positions has required consistent organisation, strategic communication, and accountability. I coordinate large-scale events, manage promotion and engagement, and ensure initiatives are delivered effectively. Balancing these responsibilities with medical school and competitive sport demonstrates my reliability and ability to commit fully to the roles I take on.
As a General Committee member, I would contribute practically and consistently to the society’s core initiatives:
PsychStart Mentoring
The opportunity to pair students with psychiatrists for research, audit, and placement guidance is a major asset of the society. I would help improve visibility of the scheme, support efficient allocation of mentors, and ensure students are actively signposted towards research and audit outputs that strengthen their portfolios.
Open Minds Programme
Training Year 7–10 students in essential mental health knowledge, while receiving high-quality teaching from registrar psychiatrists, is both impactful and professionally valuable. I would support coordination, promotion, and volunteer recruitment to maximise participation and continuity.
I am used to working within committees, taking initiative, and delivering outcomes rather than simply contributing ideas. As General Committee, I would bring organisation, consistency, and a genuine commitment to strengthening the society’s academic and outreach impact.
