Zaara Mir
I am a second-year medical student with a strong academic interest in psychiatry, particularly in the cognitive and behavioural mechanisms that underpin mental illness.
I currently serve as Social Secretary and Publicity Officer for Imperial Medics Women’s Football Team. Holding both roles has required structured planning, communication, and consistent delivery. I manage event promotion, oversee engagement across platforms, design publicity materials, and ensure strong turnout at fixtures and socials. Balancing these responsibilities with medical school and competitive sport demonstrates my reliability. As Publicity Officer for Psych Society, my focus would be strategic and outcome-driven:
- Maximising visibility of initiatives such as PsychStart Mentoring by clearly communicating the professional value of research, audit, and placement guidance opportunities.
- Promoting the Open Minds Programme to highlight both its social impact and the teaching experience gained alongside registrar psychiatrists.
- Creating consistent, recognisable branding across platforms to strengthen the society’s identity.
- Improving event attendance through structured promotion timelines rather than last-minute advertising.
- Ensuring early-year students are effectively reached and engaged.
Publicity is not simply about posting - it is about understanding your audience, timing communication effectively, and presenting opportunities in a way that makes them compelling. I have already demonstrated this within a large sports society and would apply the same structured, proactive approach to Psych Society.
I am organised, consistent, and comfortable managing responsibility alongside a demanding academic schedule. As Publicity Officer, I would ensure the society’s events, mentoring schemes, and outreach programmes receive the visibility and engagement they deserve.
