If you have been in AlgoSoc last year, you probably know me from events, running lectures, sending resources, or helping with interviews. Anyway, here's what we have done and what we want to do.
What have we done?
(Utkarsh) I will be interning at Optiver, have helped bring in 20+ sponsors at AlgoSoc, led 25+ events, rebuilt QTC Alpha as Head of Quant, co built EduFund from scratch, supported multiple members with mock interviews, HireVues and referrals, helped members 24x7 and secured an offer from Goldman Sachs too.
(Arshia) I work as a Quantitative Research Intern analysing financial data with Python, lead the Quant Research team at Queen’s Tower Capital EduFund, supervise students in Imperial’s Directed Reading Programme, and mentor students preparing for quantitative finance roles.
What will we do?
- More representation focused initiatives to help bridge the gender gap in the world of finance
- Stronger community - more events, more resources, more activity
- More sponsors and structured office visits to firms - already in talks ;)
- More structure to SEC - more focus on applications in S&T, M&A along with revamped syllabus
- A restructured QTC | Fundamentals setup including formal analyst training led by Heads of teams
- Competitions with simulations, leaderboards and big prizes (year-long fantasy league but for portfolios)
- Heavy focus on Spring Week and Summer Internship pipeline into finance
