Ophthalmology: Vice Chair

Hello! I’m Ayan, and I’m excited to put myself forward for Vice Chair of Ophthalmology Society.

Ophthalmology is a specialty I’ve actively pursued through research and clinical shadowing across multiple countries, working closely with clinicians and gaining first-hand insight into the field. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of both the academic and practical aspects of ophthalmology, and I’m keen to help create more structured and accessible opportunities for students to explore it.

Alongside this, I’ve developed strong organisational experience through Surgical Society, where I’ve helped organise and run multiple conferences. Contributing to the delivery of large-scale academic events has given me valuable insight into event planning and teamwork, thereby ensuring sessions are engaging and high-yielding.

Beyond medicine, I served as President of my school Debate Club, organising tournaments and training over 120 students. This role strengthened my leadership and ability to coordinate teams effectively - skills I would bring to OphthalSoc.

Here are key goals I’d love to focus on as Vice Chair:

Promote clearer research pathways – Actively connect students with ophthalmology research projects, audits, and academic mentorship opportunities.

Invite inspiring clinicians – Organise career insight talks across ophthalmology subspecialties, from retina to oculoplastics.

Strengthen collaboration & exposure – Partner with other medical societies to broaden access to multidisciplinary and external events.

OphthalSoc has huge potential to grow even further. I’m eager to work closely with the committee to ensure it remains inclusive, ambitious, and academically strong.

Thank you for your consideration - I’d truly appreciate your support!
