Karen Liu
Hi everyone! I’m Karen Liu, a first-year Medical Biosciences student and a volunteer with Teddy Bear Hospital this year. Getting involved with TBH has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time at Imperial so far — especially seeing how excited children get when learning about healthcare in a way that's fun (and the giddy gasps anytime the small intestine is unveiled during Anatomy Apron!).
I’m running for Sponsorship Officer because a lot of my past experience has involved fundraising and building partnerships for community initiatives. Through Med-is-Aid — a project I built during sixth form — I organised fundraising efforts and worked with sponsors to support healthcare outreach projects, which taught me how important long-term relationships are when working with partners, and how much of a difference strong support can make to the initiatives we run.
If elected, I’d love to help TBH expand its sponsorship network so we can improve materials for sessions and continue growing the society’s outreach. It would be great to see the kids have a better grasp of the hands-on knowledge TBH shares with improved resources. I’m keen to work closely with everybody in the committee to make sure sponsorship supports the ideas and goals of the whole team.
Most of all, I’d want to help make sure TBH has the resources and support it needs to keep doing the amazing work it already does.
(And remember, a vote for me is a vote for funding the long-overdue repair of Surgery Bear!)
