TeddyBear Hospital: Publicity Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Karen Liu, a first-year Medical Biosciences student and a volunteer with Teddy Bear Hospital this year. Since joining TBH, one thing that’s really stood out to me is how enthusiastic and welcoming the society is, both for the children we visit and for the volunteers running the sessions.

I’m running for Publicity Officer because I enjoy communicating ideas and helping people feel excited about getting involved in something meaningful. During school, I was Editor-in-Chief of a student publication where I coordinated articles, edited content, and thought a lot about how to present things in a way that would genuinely engage people. Since then, I’ve realised how much I enjoy being involved in publicity and communications roles.

If elected, I’d love to help TBH share more of what makes the society special. That means highlighting the impact of our outreach sessions, celebrating the volunteers who make them happen, and making it easier for new students at Imperial to discover and get involved with TBH. I’d also love to share more of the fun moments from sessions, because the funny stories from TBH and all the funny names the students give their teddies really should be shared with the world. A bit of sunshine to brighten London’s exasperatingly moody weather.

Most of all, I want to help make sure the work TBH does — for both children and volunteers — is visible, celebrated, and easy for more people to be part of.
