Obstetrics & Gynaecology: General Member

Hello! I am Thilaksana Thavaranjan, a 5th year medical student and former iBSc Reproductive and Developmental Sciences (RDS) student. Active involvement in my Obstetrics and Gynaecology placement and speciality choice placement in Complex Obstetrics and Maternal Medicine has drawn me more towards ICOGS. I also had the opportunity to represent my BSc at the science fair last year, and I am a current RDS mentor, further highlighting my interest and commitment to O&G.

By taking the catering officer role this year, I had the opportunity to cater for 80 people at the ICOGS conference, receiving positive comments. This role helped me get to know the current ICOGS members and gave me an insight into their roles, which will be useful when I take the General Member position next year. Additionally, through my placement experience and BSc experience, I have networked with registrars, consultants and researchers related to O&G, allowing me to help recruit delegates for next year’s conference as well.

I have also attended the ICOGS Journal club, allowing me to see how the event is run, enabling me to help next year run the event seamlessly by providing refreshments and snacks.

Aims:

  • To continue with the current events.
  • To create research & audit opportunities by forming a research subgroup within the society and collaborating with Imperial hospitals on audit and quality improvement projects.

I am excited to take on this role as a General Member and be a helping hand for the society.
