My love for psychiatry began long before my commitment to medicine. I am drawn to the link between experience and behaviour and the complexities of the mind. I became fascinated by how these inner processes ripple outward into relationships, communities and society as a whole. That curiosity evolved into a sustained passion for psychiatry, which led me to join PsychSoc.
Having benefited from PsychSoc’s opportunities, I am keen to contribute in a role that ensures the society continues to run efficiently and expand its impact. I applied to the PsychStart programme, securing research and placements I would not otherwise have accessed. One highlight was writing an award-winning essay for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, drawing on literature in general adult and forensic psychiatry. Engaging with these initiatives has shown me how much coordination occurs behind the scenes.
As Local Engagement Officer for Mind Health for Medical Students, I organised a wellbeing conference in partnership with PsychSoc, promoting mental health awareness and signposting resources for students. This experience strengthened my appreciation for structured teamwork and clear communication between external stakeholders which I will apply to this role.
As secretary, I would prioritise structured organisation, prompt responses to enquiries, accurate record-keeping and constant updates within the committee. I plan to support events and programmes with coherent administration, allowing the society’s initiatives to thrive.
I would be proud to contribute as PsychSoc’s secretary and I am committed to ensure that every conference runs on more than just good intentions.
