Psychiatry: President

Hey everyone! I’m Adam, a 4th year medic intercalating in Neuroscience & Mental Health, and I’m super excited to put myself forward for the role of President.

My passion for psychiatry began way back in year 12 during my EPQ investigating Dissociative Identity Disorders, and has been further cemented by the psychology block of my iBSc. I was captivated by the complex interplay of neuropsychosocial factors that underpin psychiatric disorders, and how this speciality provides a unique lens through which to understand them.

Mental health overlaps with all specialties, and I believe our society should reflect that breadth. As President, I would aim to build upon previous work and:

  • Deliver high quality teaching events which reflect the evolving field of psychiatry, for example a 'hot topics' series.
  • Expand careers, networking and mentorship opportunities, e.g. pairing pre-clinical & clinical medics.
  • Collaborate with societies like NeuroSoc and LMAPSoc to broaden our reach.
  • Boost engagement with PsychStart/OpenMinds and challenge mental health stigma.

The role of Secretary in other societies has given me invaluable experience in organising events, supporting committee, and handling tasks behind-the-scenes to keep everything running smoothly. Now, I want to give back to our community by fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and engage with this exciting field.

I would be honoured to serve as your President, and with your support, I am confident we can build on our successes and reach new heights!

Thank you for your time & consideration, I hope I’ve earned your vote!
