Astronomy: Equipment Officer

Hi! This is Yibo, a first-year student from the Department of Earth Science and Engineering. You've probably seen me carrying my smart telescope during stargazing events, or browsed the photos I've taken in the WhatsApp groupchat!

Starting from a small, all-manual astronomical telescope, I've been experienced in manipulating various astronomy equipment. I am now an amateur astrophotographer, owning several sets of deep-sky equipment. I've brought a small smart telescope here, as well as working with AstroSoc equipment during stargazing events. Besides the Imperial AstroSoc, I've worked with the Astronomy Society of my high school, teaching students to use the 16'' Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. I am also engaging in activities of Cambridge University Astronomy Society (CUAS), sharing a place with low light pollution near London.

I know where we all start, so I plan to host hand-on tutorials for telescope manipulation and postprocessing. I will further improve your experience during stargazing nights by optimising current equipment and planning essential upgrades. Let's make stars accessible for everyone!
