Vision: Junior Medics Conference Chair

Hi everyone! I’m Neha, a second-year medical student. As part of subcommittee for Vision this year, I’ve helped at all the conferences so far and have really enjoyed the process, trying to be as involved as possible. Therefore, I’d like to take this a step further and lead the Junior Medics Conference next year!

I’m ex-chair of my school’s Biomedical Society which ran a lot of events for younger years about the medicine application process such as mock MMI carousels and presentations from current medical students. This involved emailing constantly to recruit volunteers to run stations, as well as contacting ex-pupils. I was also a sergeant in RAF cadets where I often had to organise equipment for activities involving first-aid, hand-held radios and team-building skills. As vice-chair of the pupil council, I liaised with subsections of the council to ensure tasks were completed on schedule. Through these, I’ve learnt to manage teams effectively. I’m also familiar with the rewarding challenges of working with younger people as I used to deliver lessons to S1 (Year 8) pupils on gender-based violence and currently volunteer with Teddy Bear Hospital and tutor Year 4 pupils. In the past, I was a first aid volunteer for St. Andrew’s First Aid and helped at Rangers football matches, so I’m used to being in high pressure environments and work well during them.

Working with the subcommittee and committee this year has been a lovely experience, and I would love to continue being involved with Vision next year!
