STEM has shaped both my personal and academic journey, so I understand how important early exposure can be. It was through targeted outreach programmes and mentorship that I found my clarity, and that perspective drives my motivation to run for Open Days Project Manager for the Women in SET society.
Through my experience as a STEM ambassador and representing my Chemistry department for Year 6 open days, I actively managed hands-on practical experiments, helping to introduce younger students to complex scientific concepts. At university, as a Zero Gravity mentor, I guide students from underrepresented backgrounds through academic and application processes.
As an Open Days project manager, I will design interactive, purposeful events such as:
- Application insight sessions: Breaking down personal statements, subject choices, interview techniques
- Hands-on practical sessions: Leading students through engaging practical demonstrations
- Panels featuring conversations about life at imperial, navigating imposter syndrome and being in a competitive environment.
Crucially, I will prioritise building sustained relationships with partner schools, so our engagement continues beyond a single visit.
This role is important to me because I want to create environments where young women leave Open Day events not just inspired but equipped with renewed confidence in pursuing STEM. Though this role, I will work to ensure these environment remain open and accessible to others.
