Hellenic: Events Officer

My name is Filippos Akylas Kaloudis and I am a second-year undergraduate running for Events Officer.

This year, the Hellenic Society has offered me the chance to participate in numerous events, ranging from dinners to club nights, helping me feel a warming sense of belonging to a community that brings us closer to home. Events lie at the heart of this community, and I hope to leave my mark in its growth by diversifying its offers through:

  • Introducing fun practical activities for bonding: My goal would be to regularise such activities (such as December’s ice skating and the traditional dances course that unfortunately did not happen) that help us get to know each other better by engaging in fun, appealing hands-on activities. Additional examples could include sports days, team cooking classes/competitions, competitions in general (trivia, Olympics-style), karaoke.
  • Regularising collaborations with other Hellenic societies (beyond club nights): Hosting joint events (e.g. drinks, Tsiknopempti dinner) to meet Greeks in London attending different universities, building a broader community.
  • Regularising careers panels and reaching out to Greek professional communities in London to secure mentoring and internship opportunities for our members.

Being just a second-year student at Imperial, it was pleasing to see the immense reinvigoration of the university’s Hellenic community, which relies on a combination of consistency and binding events. As Events Officer, I aspire to work towards further growth by organising events that will help us bond with each other, make new friendships and build an enduring sense of home away from home.
