Having had nearly four years of AMSA experience, I’ve seen how much the society does well, particularly its academic events and mocks. However, I believe there is real potential to grow our membership and strengthen the diversity within it.
While we have strong representation from East and Southeast Asian students, I believe we can broaden our reach further. As a South Asian medical student, I understand how important representation is. Our community includes South Asian, Central Asian, Middle Eastern, mixed-heritage, and many other identities. AMSA should reflect that richness.
I also bring leadership experience, having previously served as President of Badminton. In that role, I learned how to organise effectively, communicate clearly, and create an inclusive environment where everyone felt welcome, regardless of background or ability. I want to bring that same energy and structure to AMSA.
As Secretary, I will use the role to actively improve diversity and inclusion. Through managing communications, I will ensure our messaging is welcoming and representative. I will respond to membership queries warmly and clearly, making it easy for students from all backgrounds to get involved. I will work with the Publicity Officer to ensure events reflect a broad range of cultures and perspectives. I will rennovate the AMSA Newsletter allowing easy access to the latest socials, academics and help our members need.
Let’s grow AMSA into a society that truly reflects all of us.
