Ashley Luo
Asian Medical Students Association: Chair
Hi I'm Ashley, and I am honoured to be running for AMSA President! Over the past three years, AMSA has been central to my university experience. As Academic Officer, I ensured our academic events ran successfully while introducing new initiatives such as our Mock MMI Day. Alongside captaining the futsal team, these experiences have prepared me to lead with organisation, initiative, and teamwork. To enhance your experience in AMSA, I hope to achieve the following:
A Stronger Committee:
- Structured start-of-term meetings to set clear goals and define roles.
- Early summer planning for major events, including logistics, risk assessments, and sponsorships.
Academic Excellence and Accessible Socials:
- Maintain a strong balance between academic and social events.
- Introduce more affordable, accessible inter-uni socials to maximise inclusion and turnout;
- Expand initiatives such as the Career Series and Mock MMI to strengthen alumni links and inspire future students.
A More Connected Alumni Network:
- Create teaching opportunities for senior students and alumni within the AMSA Teaching Series.
- Develop a tiered alumni engagement model (teaching/mentorship, international opportunities, and career guidance) to match alumni interests with student needs.
- Include an alumni section on the AMSA newsletter highlighting their career journeys, stories, achievements and ways to stay involved.
Building on Our Strong Community:
- Termly academic and social interest surveys to ensure events reflect student demand.
- A formal membership package including a Year 1 Anki guide, recorded sessions, and early access to opportunities.
- Encourage more active participation from younger years in AMSA; Offer pathways from member → subcommittee → committee.
