Nicole Oyelakin
Hey fighters, it’s Nicole! You may have seen me in Friday sessions, being annoying and asking for your tickets… but hey it comes with being part of the committee. This year, I noticed a lot more women coming to train regularly, and my goal is for that number to continue to increase next year. My strategy for achieving that is by organising:
- Women only sessions (GIAG sessions and monthly sessions)
- Basic self-defence classes
I have reached out to several other martial arts societies and found that they would be interested in hosting a women only trial session, where we would explain the differences between each martial arts and participants will get to try whichever one they choose in 10-15min stations.
As woman’s captain, I will also be responsible for finding and organising fight nights, making sure there are women’s categories and enough fighters. I will also create opportunities for beginner fighters to gain experience by collaborating with other universities or societies.
