Anika Sharma
Hi, I’m Anika, a second-year medical student excited to apply for the role of ICOGS Secretary. ICOGS has significantly heightened my interest in O&G, and I would love the opportunity to help run and develop a society that has inspired me academically. I am highly organised, reliable and committed, and am particularly confident in my collaborative approach and flexible nature — qualities that are essential to ensuring the smooth running of an academic society.
Attending and presenting a poster at the ICOGS conference, alongside participating in journal clubs, deepened my enthusiasm for O&G while developing my academic communication skills and confidence engaging with both peers and professionals. As a sponsorship officer for the MWF subcommittee, I coordinated with external sponsors, strengthening my formal communication, teamwork and organisational skills while meeting strict deadlines. This role gave me valuable insight into the structure and running of student societies behind the scenes. Additionally, as a Sexpression Events Officer, I helped deliver the “Best If You Test” workshop, gaining experience in coordinating logistics, delegating tasks and ensuring events ran smoothly.
If elected as Secretary, I would work closely with the ICOGS committee — particularly the Treasurer — to maintain clear documentation, introduce regular reports or newsletters, and organise welcoming initiatives such as a coffee introduction event. I would also support fundraising initiatives such as themed fashion shows or annual dinners, and expand outreach through the mentoring scheme. I am so keen to be part of ICOGs and help it grow in engagement!
