Hello,
I’m Rayan Abdallah, running for VP!
Why am I running? To move the committee from management to community. I’m Syrian, and if you’ve ever seen Al-Assad memes (thank you CIA <3), you’d know I understand what it’s like for your voice not to be heard. While DoCSoc is great, it needs some changes. My plan is to:
- Increase member involvement and advocate for more inclusion: Your criticism will be welcomed, changes will be implemented, and your voice WILL be heard! How? I’ll run office hours twice a month to let students provide feedback and enable them to organise events, funded by DoCSoc.
- Connect with all of DoC: host events by postgrads, bring in alumni, and encourage Imperial-grown start-ups to share their experiences!
- Enhance ICHack Volunteering: I’ll provide a social space with scheduled activities just for volunteers on breaks, and I’ll push for better organisation (including food)! Incentivising more volunteers will also decrease the tasks for everyone!
But of course, we need to preserve what works - sponsor events, socials, Bar-nights, and pizza - I’ll keep them going and make them better where I can.
Why should you vote for me?
From being the Senior Coach for my city in the Syrian Informatics Olympiad, to working as an Imperial ambassador, I’ve gained leadership from organising academic and social events for years. From when I worked in the industry, I’ve learnt to provide value while performing under pressure, a skill which was tested and prevailed when I volunteered for IC Hack 26.
