Ashmita Paul

Hi everyone! My name is Ashmita Paul, a first-year Biotechnology student, and I am running for the position of BiochemSoc Social Events Officer.

Despite the demanding nature of Biochemistry, every student deserves a break from locking in and spending quality time with friends and peers. As the Social Events Officer, I will be in charge of organising fun events open to all BiochemSoc members, so that you can enjoy your university life to the fullest extent. I am a very organised and determined person, and I am always willing to take suggestions from my peers regarding any events they would like to see.

We already have events such as movie nights, pub quizzes, and scavenger hunts. I plan to include events like day trips or nature walks for students to decompress and admire the weather (especially since spring is coming). I also want to host science-themed game nights, such as a charades/Pictionary tournament with specific terms or a potluck where the BiochemSoc commitee bring traditional snacks from different countries to serve to students and increase international awareness. I believe that BiochemSoc could be transformed into a more active and open space for students to find new opportunities and bond with more people from their course.

University is more than just academics; it is about being part of a community, and I will try my best to create spaces where you can unwind and connect with your coursemates and build new relationships.
