Philip Kaloudis
Physics: Vice President for Education
My name is Filippos (Philip) Akylas Kaloudis, and I am a second-year undergraduate running for Vice President for Education of the Physics Society. I believe I can contribute to the organization of physics education events, scale up and diversify the opportunities currently offered by PhySoc, through:
- Organizing more internal lab tours to ensure our students can visit the Department’s cutting-edge labs and hear from leaders in their fields, to accommodate for scarcity of available spots and the immense interest.
- Conducting external lab tours at UK universities and potentially abroad for our students to visit facilities and laboratories in different institutions and gain a deeper insight into modern physics research.
- Increasing opportunities to hear from students who have completed UROPs, IROPs, and internships and gain a better understanding of the process and their advantages. Conducting workshops to provide practical application tips and maximise chances of selection.
- Amplifying career events through the expansion of industrial physics talks to ensure students can hear from professionals directly using Physics in their career (special focus on e.g. modern engineering-based firms). Inviting entrepreneurs with a physics background that have built successful startups to share their insights and help interested students.
As Vice President for Education, my goal would be to amplify our students’ opportunities to learn from researchers pushing the frontiers and gain deep insights into how physics applications in different industries. Most importantly, I aspire to ensure all students have the necessary resources to lay the foundations for the pursuit of their career goals.
