Chemical Engineering: Events Officer

ChemEng is already stressful enough. Our events shouldn’t feel like an extension of a lab report.

If I’m Events Officer, I want to make sure the events we run are actually worth leaving your room for.

I want:

  • Proper themed socials: big energy, zero embarrassment.
  • Competitive chaos: ChemEng games nights, ridiculous mini design challenges, year-group vs year-group showdowns.
  • Low-cortisol chill events: board games, movie nights, de-stress sessions before exams.
  • Whole-cohort moments: events that mix year groups so first years actually know who fourth years are (and vice versa).
  • Structured but fun planning: things run smoothly and people have a good time.

Basically, events with ENERGY!

I’ve run large-scale initiatives before, and what I’ve learned is this: the difference between a mid event and a great one is planning and intention. I’ll make sure things are organised, well-timed, and actually enjoyable; not just something we put on because we feel like we should.

I care about the culture of the department. It’s always the small things — who feels included, who feels comfortable turning up alone, who actually makes friends outside their lab group — that shape the ChemEng experience.

ChemEng is tough. The community shouldn’t be.
