Hi everyone! I’m Akarat (Bright), a second-year Mechanical Engineering student, and I’m running to be your MechSoc Secretary!

Let’s be honest, MechSoc is often known for Curry Night and Pop the Balloon. I want us to be known for more events people genuinely look forward to.

If elected, I’ll focus on three priorities:

1) Make committee work more open (and actually listen to you)

Sometimes we all wonder what the committee is doing (me included). I’ll take clear notes in meetings and share them, so you know what’s being planned. If an event idea isn’t it, you can tell us early, and we can shape things around what you actually want.

2) Make events impossible to miss

Loads of people mute group chats or don’t check Outlook much, so it’s easy to miss announcements. I’ll work with the UGO to improve how we promote events, including getting key events onto your calendar/timetable so you see them when you check it daily.

3) More MechEng careers oriented events (including a fair makeathon)

A lot of us do hackathons through other societies, so why not run our own MechEng one? I joined the CGCU Makeathon and loved how tailored it felt. I’d like to organise something similar, ideally with better access (like STW), and clear rules on parts/tools so it stays fair for everyone.
