Astronomy: President

As president of the astronomer society, I would aim to expand the scope of this wonderful community.

  1. If elected I would plan more guest speakers to come and provide talks on their specific niche within astrophysics/aerospace, not only speakers from imperial but those from outside, in industry. I would aim to spread these talks out periodically, so that there is at least a talk each term.
  2. For stargazing events, I would line up hot drinks (such as hot chocloate) during those long cold nights, to keep us stargazers warm. I know that the british weather is very unpredictable causing this year's number of stargazing events to be sparse, but at every chance of an interesting clear sky I would like to set up the telescopes to allow people to gaze upon the beauty of the cosmos.
  3. I am aware that the price of the trip is currently £108 which I understand may discourage people by the large price tag, so I shall try get additional funding to reduce the cost of the trip to allow more people the opportunity to take a trip to see the beauty of the starry sky without all the light pollution.
  4. This society currently takes 2 trips a year, one to the science museum and a 3 day hike with the Fellwanderers, however I would also like members of this society to have the opportunity to take a trip to the Greenwich observatory, either to take a tour of the observatory or visit the planetarium.
