Materials: President

Hi everyone! I’m Baris, and I’m running to continue as your MatSoc President. Having served in the role this past year, I’ve seen exactly what it takes to keep the society running smoothly and I’m ready to use that experience to make this coming year even better.

This year MatSoc had an extremely strong run. Alongside organising arguably the best MatSoc Dinner in years, we maintained excellent coordination with the Union, keeping the committee organised, ensuring the society ran smoothly, and running a superb series of lunchtime lectures.

If re-elected, my goal is simple: keep raising the bar even further.

That means collaborating with other societies across Imperial to run massive joint socials and exciting cross-society events. I also want to help the committee strengthen our industry links, particularly with companies including McLaren and Rolls-Royce, bringing more guest speakers and opportunities for students. Alongside that, we’ll continue organising well-run socials that bring together the whole department, including pub crawls, and expanding our lunchtime talks with more alumni and industry experts. Of course, we’ll keep building on flagship events like the MatSoc Dinner, making sure it remains the best event in the department calendar.

Materials is a small course, which makes the sense of community here especially important. Bringing students from different year groups together helps turn the department into something much more connected. We’ve made great progress this year, and I’m ready to keep pushing the society forward.

The best of MatSoc is still ahead.
