Cara Sweeney

Hey, I’m Cara and I’m running to be your VP next year! I’ve loved being part of MatSoc over the past year-and-a-half and feel this is a real chance to give back :)

Building on the great work Candice has done this year, I would:

• Introduce voting in relation to Lunchtime Lecture topics, allowing you to select the area you’re most interested in. I’d also like to give students the opportunity to get involved and deliver a lecture on a (Materials-related) topic of your choice!
• Expand the number of industries represented at careers fairs: Materials students enter a wide range of industries post-graduation and I feel this should be better reflected in the employers who attend.
• Make industry trips more frequent. Trips are currently run at most once per year - I would look to increase this to give everybody the opportunity to go on one.

I would work closely with the rest of the MatSoc committee to make this happen - with the ultimate aim of making these events more interesting and useful for you all!
