Hi - I'm Suchir Gupta, and I'm really excited to run for the Vice President position at MathSoc.
From BPuzzled to the Estimathon to the QRT maths competition, I've been involved with every event the society has to offer, and I have endless ideas of where to take the society - from social events to academic competitions. I also am aware of the pain of spring/internship applications, and want to connect you to the jobs personally through campus mock interviews, creation of a MathSoc CV bank and a pairing scheme with Imperial post-grads in the role you want.
Things I can do for you
- Ramp up the social aspect: think monthly board games nights, poker competitions, chess tournaments, pub quizzes, boat parties. Essentially, trying to make the Maths department more connected as a cohort.
- Introduce larger academic events: data science/quant competitions (e.g. modelling/forecasting), "puzzle of the week" to be shown in Huxley with prizes, Maths vs CS poker tournament, mental maths challenges. These will be sponsored too, so expect lots of free food and free merch!
- Dramatically improve our relationship with sponsors & post-grads: expect mock interviews, a MathSoc CV bank, pairing students up with grads in the role they want, and Trading Interview and other interview platforms to be subsidised under the society.
- Design new merch: I want to produce a lot more MathSoc merch, and make it a lot cheaper
I want to provide you with all the tools you need for success, academically and socially.
