Bio Engineering: Industrial Events Coordinator

Hi! I’m Tanishka Gautam and I’m running for industrial events coordinator because I believe exposure to the applications of bioengineering and the career opportunities stemming from this is one of the most valuable parts of the society. Bioengineering is a broad and rapidly evolving field which encompasses a variety of disciplines such as biotech, medtech, pharmaceuticals, prosthetics and tissue engineering. From experience, this breadth can make it hard to know what opportunities exist, when to apply and how to access the pathways to get there.

That’s why I want every industry event to answer the following question - How do I get from bioengineering at Imperial to that role?

If elected, I will:

  • Organise engaging industry talks, ensuring connections are formed between industry professionals and students while providing valuable insights within a range of fields
  • Plan networking events with professionals and alumnae to give students transparent advice on career progression and hiring/selection processes, helping clear confusion on what works and what doesn’t
  • Proactively reach out to employers to secure outreach and internship opportunities, ensuring even more niche opportunities are brought into focus

Clear communication and organisation skills are important for this role, which I have honed in past leadership and communication roles such as young enterprise, form captain and sports ambassador, as well as industry experience, allowing me to represent the society professionally and reliably.

My goal is to make the industry feel accessible, transparent and provide actionable industry-specific professional advice and insights for all bioengineering students. Thanks for your support!
