Bio Engineering: Industrial Events Coordinator

Hi everyone! I’m Sophia, and I believe we deserve better exposure to the Bioeng industry beyond the lecture theatre.

I've been Chairing the Imperial Femtech Society (500+ members) for 2 years now, through which I've organized 10+ large-scale events with startups, corporates, investors, and founders.

Right now, applications and internships feel daunting — not because we’re underqualified, but because we’re underexposed. Imperial teaches us the theory brilliantly (highly variable in my humble opinion), but we’re rarely shown the full range of opportunities out there.

Most of us default to big corporates or research institutions. But there’s so much more to this field - startups/spinouts, venture capital, innovation & strategy, entrepreneurial routes...

Not everyone wants the “standard pipeline” — and we shouldn’t feel like we have to.

We’re bioengineers — we should graduate not just technically strong, but commercially aware and confident exploring paths that genuinely excite us.
