Aishah Anjum
Hi everyone, I'm Aishah, a third-year medic, and I'm re-running for the Working Class Network!
As the Working Class Officer for the past year, I've thoroughly enjoyed getting actively involved in a range of initiatives:
- Worked closely with Felix on campaigns to lower campus food prices, increase bursaries, and expand shuttle bus services between campus sites for free student travel.
- Represented the network at Imperial's Thrive residential (a widening-participation summer school) and provided support for incoming students. I hope to work there this summer!
- Served as a panelist for Imperial’s Social Mobility Week in Term 1 and a recent panel discussion on Imposter Syndrome for Thrive students.
- Established strong links with Imperial's 93% Club by joining the committee and collaborating on social events with the Working Class Network.
My aims for next year are to build on these projects and strengthen collaboration between the 93% Club, the Working Class Network, and other student networks, to foster a stronger community of people from similar backgrounds.
Finally, my lived experience has given me a deep understanding of how being working-class and first-gen intersects with race, gender, disability & neurodivergence, and mental health. This means I can provide nuanced advocacy for many more students who are disproportionately affected by these barriers.
With the experience and insight I’ve deepened in this role, I would love to continue my endeavours within the Working Class Network, with your vote.
Thank you!
