Hey everyone,
My name is Oluchi and I am running to be your ICSMSU Academic Chair.
In my time at ICSM, I've contributed meaningfully to both the academic and wider student community. From helping organise conferences, heading publicity to serving as ICSMSU Academic Officer for Early Years, I've gained experience in communication, collaboration and delivering initiatives, reaching large numbers of students.
As Academic Officer, I organised CPA mocks for almost 300 students in collaboration with four academic societies, facilitated a CPA tutoring scheme, and worked with reps to improve SSLG engagement through new initiatives like donut drives. I've also had constructive discussions with faculty to improve early years' mocks, helped develop student conduct material and ran an online first year revision session with MedEd.
Most importantly, I've spoken to students, listening to their concerns and helping them navigate medical school. I care deeply about making academics less overwhelming and more accessible, and this insight is what I want to bring to the whole academics stream.
If elected, I will continue to stengthen SSLG engagement and close the feedback loop, collaborate with academic societies to provide updated revision resources, advocate for greater faculty support and work to improve equity across clinical placements. I will also work closely with the Welfare stream to ensure every student feels academically and personally supported.
I hope to build on my previous work, as well as that of the previous chair, ensuring every student has access to resources and guidance to thrive.
