Hi everyone! I’m Basit, a Mechanical Engineering student and your current CGCU Education Officer.
Over the past year, I’ve worked with senior staff through the Educational Development Office to push forward reform in Assessments & Feedback across Engineering. I contributed to faculty-level workload reviews, advocated for clearer marking criteria and expectations, and pushed for more consistent and timely feedback.
I’ve also strengthened collaboration between Departmental Academic and Wellbeing Reps to ensure student concerns are raised quickly and effectively. Whether in faculty meetings or Union discussions, I’ve made sure engineering students have a strong, constructive voice at the table.
With a lot of ongoing projects, as CGCU Education Officer next year I will continue to:
- Improve Academic Support - Reduce unnecessary workload pressure, push for timely and meaningful feedback, and improve quality of revision resources.
- Strengthen Representation - Increase opportunities for students to share feedback through regular forums and better rep coordination.
- Modernise Learning - Advocate for clear AI guidance and career-focused personal tutoring.
- Enhance Alumni, Industry & Career Links - Work with departments and sponsors to expand internships, mentorship, and research opportunities.
