RCSU: Deputy Science Challenge Chair

Science matters most when it is shared. Science Challenge is one of Imperial’s most exciting opportunities for students to step beyond the lab and learn how to communicate complex ideas clearly, creatively, and confidently.

As a Science Challenge 2nd place awardee, I experienced first-hand how great this competition is but also what improvements could make it even better.

I have been deeply involved in science communication initiatives, this is something that sits at the core of how I see my role as a scientist.

  • Expanding outreach - Science Challenge should reach more students. I want to increase engagement both within Imperial and with high school students, encouraging the next generation of scientists to see communication as a core scientific skill.

  • Broader judging perspectives - even when each year has a central theme, science communication benefits from interdisciplinary perspectives. I will work to bring in judges from different scientific fields, as well as science communication and industry, to ensure more diverse feedback.

  • A stronger awards and conclusion event - the final ceremony should celebrate participants’ work properly. I would like to improve the organisation of the event and explore including a short guest speaker or judge panel discussion, potentially hosted either at Imperial or in an external venue (like in my edition) to give the event a wider reach.
