Sally Suchanek

Biochemistry (UG): Departmental Wellbeing Representative

Hi!

I'm Sally and I'm running to be re-elected as your Biochem Wellbeing Dep Rep!

This year, I've had the honour of working with staff and students on a variety of issues that affect us as aspiring biochemists, and I'd like to continue my work next year!

Specifically, this year I have:

  • Worked with staff to set clear expectations for personal tutoring, especially when it comes to discussing coursework/exam feedback.
  • Been involved in Takeover Tuesdays to increase feedback response (also supplying treats and hot chocolate to the Common Room every week!)
  • Collaborated with academic year reps to try and manage workload expectations.
  • Pushed for increased accessibility in our buildings and increased transparency surrounding Imperial/DoLS-managed programs, applications, and funding.

These are things I'd like to continue improving next year, as I believe they're essential to increasing our happiness and ensuring we get good value out of our insanely high annual fees :)

If re-elected, I would like to also do the following next year:

  • Increase student-staff engagement with more community activities!
  • Advocate for easier access to personalized mental health support at the faculty and Union level.
  • Improve the common room to be cozier, include more games, and restock ping-pong equipment.
  • Work with BiochemSoc to hold more sessions for Biochem students to talk about shared experiences, similar to this year's housing talk for Y1s.
