Materials (UG): Departmental Wellbeing Representative

Hi everyone!

I’m Samantha, your current MatSoc Secretary, and potentially your future Departmental Wellbeing Rep next year!

Over the past year as Secretary, I’ve worked closely with both students and the department. This has given me a strong understanding of how our department runs, and more importantly, how we can make it feel more supportive and connected for everyone.

If elected, I want to focus on building a wellbeing culture that feels proactive, inclusive, and enjoyable. My priorities as your wellbeing rep would be:

  • Continuing Materials favourites such as regular Bake Sales and Tea & Biscuits (we all know we love food)
  • Introducing more free food events, because morale improves significantly with snacks!
  • Bringing back and expanding creative craft sessions: Halloween pumpkin carving, Valentine’s flower-making, LNY calligraphy, lab coat decorating, meditation & painting, etc.
  • Introduce Materials Student-Staff Social so we can get to know our lecturers better in a more relaxed, informal setting, because maybe our annual once-a-year MatSoc dinner karaoke isn't enough quality bonding time...
  • Launching themed Tea & Biscuits Tuesdays for better vibes and an actual excuse to pause and yap
  • Collaborating closely with MatSoc to strengthen our cohort community

Wellbeing isn’t just about support during difficult moments, but creating an environment where we regularly feel connected and valued.

Let’s continue making our department one that supports each other both academically and personally!
