Kelly Li
I am Kelly from Second year Biomedical Engineering. I’ve had times when I felt really stressed and didn’t know where to let it out. I’ve tried university and community wellbeing talking services. They can help, but the waiting time is long, and the process is honestly a bit much, with lots of forms and questionnaires. For many people, that’s enough to make them give up before they even start.
That’s why I want our Biomedical department to feel like a simple, safe, and warm wellbeing space — something you can actually reach when you need it.
Here are the three things I want to focus on:
1) More wellbeing events that people actually want — especially dog therapy.
No one says no to hanging out with dogs. If it only happens once a term, it’s always fully booked. If it works and people love it, we should do it more.
2) A monthly wellbeing newsletter.
One email a month with the full wellbeing calendar — so students and staff can plan ahead and actually join.
3) More practical workshops.
Because many of our struggles are similar: career anxiety, staying emotionally stable and sleeping better during exam season, and helping international students feel more confident speaking up and asking for help. Not just “feel better”, but also getting real life stuff sorted.
I’d also love to meet more of you and hear what you genuinely need. As we grow in Biomedical, we should also make sure we’re taking care of each other!
