Zaha Kirmizitoprak
Hello everyone, my name is Zaha! I am a passionate and dedicated student ready to take on a greater role in BMB student representation as academic officer. Over the past two terms, I have worked as one of your academic representatives, working closely with our teachers to ensure feedback is translated into real change.
One of the greatest challenges we face is that you all contribute your time to provide insightful feedback, yet the impact can feel slow and invisible. When improvements mainly benefit the future cohorts, it can discourage people from speaking up.
I want to ensure every student feels supported, listened to, and valued—where your feedback doesn’t feel like it disappears into the system; instead, it leads to clear communication and visible progress.
With my fellow representatives, we have already pushed for:
- The review of consolidation tasks at the beginning of face-to-face sessions to increase engagement throughout the cohort
- Focus on exam-style questions in consolidation tasks to reduce exam stress
- Encouraging teaching fellows to communicate their availability post face-to-face sessions to improve approachability
- More e-module and pre-session focused tAPP activities
If elected, I plan on…
. Making sure all BMB students feel heard and supported throughout their time at Imperial
. Strengthen communication channels between students and teachers beyond simple surveys, such as drop-in academic hours for enquiries and feedback
. Provide increased exposure to research opportunities and internships
