Kevin Jang
RSMU: Vice President Education
Hello,
During my time in RSM, I have been a Dep Rep, Geophysics soc presdient, and a year rep.
In these roles, I was able to create tangible, meaningful changes.
What I've delivered so far:
- Common Room refurbishment
- I worked closely with ICU, making ESE the first departments to successfully upgrade our space based on student feedback
- Revival of Geophysics society
- I reactived this previously dormant soc, transforming into a floursihing, active community
- Greater assessment transparency
- As a dep rep, I brought past year exam feedback to ESESIS, improving clarity and exam preparation
- Improved communication
- we have also started the student newsletter to better communicate changes made because of you!
MY AIM MOVING FORWARD
Assessments
- Digitalisation of exam scripts and release unmarked exam papers
- As a dep rep, I helped trial this initiative last term in Y3/4 modules
- I aim to continue this effort so that students can better reflect on their exam performance
- Working alongside the central college to reduce exam workload
Teaching
- Feedback literacy remains a key issue across deparments
- Receiving feedback is important but so is knowing how to use it!
- I'll work with the departmental teaching commitee and ICU to ensure:
- practical support on using feedback
- clearer post-exam guidance
Representation
- As someone deeply embedded in ICU rep network, I understand how departmental and ICU operates
- I'll support departmental and year reps to ensure their work aligns with the college and ICU
- RSMU has traditionally been overshadowed by CGCU and under-represented in the Faculty of Engineeirng
