Hi! I’m Avanthika, a year one biology student hailing from India! At 17 years old, I made the decision to move continents to pursue my studies, and it has not been the smooth sail I expected it to be. Being separated from my family and community, having to translate all my thoughts, and losing touch with my culture makes me feel lost. To anyone who feels homesick and alienated in a new structure with no guidance, who is struggling with the transition, and who itches to find themselves at Imperial, I see you and I hope to make this better for you.

If voted as an International Students Network member, I aim to better connect and signpost you to the resources provided by the university and to improve their quality, ensuring that you get all the help you need for a smooth transition from life at home to life at Imperial. I wish to create more opportunities for you to get in touch with both your own and other communities, helping you find yourself within the diverse and multicultural environment here at Imperial. I also cannot wait to meet and talk to you to find ways to make each culture feel equally represented and respected!

Being an international student is a difficult experience, but some of your hurdles can be removed. I know I may not be able to make Imperial feel like home, but I hope to make it a safe space where you can grow and feel represented.
