Debanshi Chatterjee
I am Debanshi, a first-year student standing to be your JMC Undergraduate Departmental Representative because I believe our course should be as connected and supportive as it is rigorous.
Joint Mathematics and Computing at Imperial College London challenges us to think abstractly, code precisely, and manage intense workloads. That environment produces incredible students - but it can also feel isolating. To help with this, I want to strengthen both our academic experience and our sense of community.
Academically, I will push for clearer coursework expectations, better spacing of deadlines, and more transparent feedback. I’ll actively gather structured input from students and make sure concerns are communicated constructively to staff and actually followed up on. Representation should lead to outcomes, not just meetings.
Beyond academics, I want to build a stronger JMC identity across all years. One initiative I’m particularly excited about is hosting JMC game and social sessions. These will be relaxed, low-pressure events where students from every year can meet, collaborate, and unwind. First years gain guidance, older students share experience, and everyone builds connections outside lecture halls. A tighter community makes us more confident and resilient.
We JMC students are analytical, creative, and ambitious, and we deserve representation that truly reflects that energy. I am organised and genuinely invested in taking the initiative to improve our shared experience. If elected, I will strive to make JMC a collaborative, inclusive and connected group, so vote for me!
