I’m running for Working Class Campaigns Officer because I want to ensure that students from working class and low income backgrounds are represented and supported.
Coming from a working class background myself, I’m passionate about challenging the barriers that make university less inclusive. After attending Imperial’s Social Mobility Week, I gained an insight into the experiences of working class students at Imperial, and the challenges they face with university life.
My key aims are to:
- Raise awareness of financial support: Ensure students know about bursaries, hardship funds, and financial assistance.
- Make campus food more affordable: Campaign for lower prices and discounted options so meals are accessible for all.
- Build community and peer support: Create spaces where working-class students can share experiences, gain confidence, and support one another through social events.
- Promote social mobility: Share information about career opportunities so students can build skills to help them progress professionally.
To achieve these aims, I bring experience from volunteering with a food charity (Children of Adam), and working as a learning coach at a school. These roles gave me the ability to collaborate with people from a working class background, whether that be providing affordable food, or academic support to disadvantaged students. Working in a team in both of these roles has strengthened my problem-solving and organisational skills, while also giving me opportunities to take on a leadership role. I want to use this experience to ensure working class students at Imperial have the support they need to thrive throughout their degree.
