Society of Research and Academia: Social and Networking Secretary

Hi, I’m Arushi, a 2nd year medic, and I’m excited to run for Social and Networking Secretary!

Attending the Young Researcher’s Conference and SORA networking events over the last year have been inspiring experiences, showing me firsthand how important it is to build strong networks in academia. Over the past year, I’ve been actively involved in event planning as part of the Paediatrics Conference sub-committee and through my leadership roles in two of the biggest cultural societies at Imperial. These experiences have strengthened my ability to organize engaging events, bring people together, and create meaningful connections—all of which I would love to bring to SORA!

I aim to:

Plan monthly events to bring together students, academics, and industry professionals to help members navigate their research journeys
Host exciting social events that blend fun with research opportunities, making networking feel natural and enjoyable, and less of a burden
Hold networking master classes for members to learn how to reach out to new people, sell themselves and find research opportunities
Ensure inclusivity, accessibility and collaboration by bringing together and partnering students of all experience levels (maybe a mentorship scheme :)) so that seniors can guide the juniors and share their learnings

SORA is about collaboration, inspiration, and opportunity, and I’m committed to making sure that our socials and networking events help every member thrive.
