DoCSoc: Academic Events Coordinator

DoCSoc is one of the best-connected student societies in the UK, bridging the gap between students and industry with world-class sponsors and events. However, there is a significant lack of engagement with the incredible academic talent within our department. As Academic Events Coordinator, I will work to rectify this, ensuring students benefit not just from industry connections, but also from the cutting-edge research happening here at Imperial.

With 15 AI research groups at this university and world-leading work across computing fields, there is an untapped wealth of knowledge that DoCSoc should help bring to its members. This year, beyond Internships/UROPs 101, only one academic event occurred—I will endeavour to change that. My primary aim is to organise talks, panels, and Q&A sessions with professors and researchers in sought-after fields. Additionally, as a JMC student, I will also work to establish collaborations with the Mathematics department to bring interdisciplinary academic events to DoCSoc.

My experience on the committee for a smaller, charitable society, as Soup Run Treasurer, and spearheading a six-week charity campaign at school which involved coordinating with businesses and teaching staff, has honed my skills in organisation, outreach, and logistics. I am confident in my ability to be a reliable committee member and to assist with flagship events such as IC Hack.

Let’s make DoCSoc not just an industry hub, but an academic powerhouse.
