Hanqing ZHANG
As a PhD student in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, I am running for Council Representative (PG Engineering) to advocate for our department’s needs and drive positive change, especially for our postgraduate community. My potential contribution is as follows.
1. Funding and Tuition Transparency: I will push for a slowdown in tuition fee increases and advocate for expanded scholarship opportunities. I’ll work to broaden the scholarship resources available to PG students and ensure they are properly and clearly informed.
2. Sustainable Research Practices: As a member of the Control and Power Group, I aim to promote energy efficiency, reducing departmental energy use by 10% and securing funding for eco-friendly projects, such as carbon-neutral initiatives. Success will be achieved when sustainability goals are visibly implemented in our labs and PG offices.
3. Career Development Initiatives: I plan to increase networking events and technical workshops by at least 20%, connecting our research with industry. The work can be checked by tracking participation rates and student feedback.
4. Enhanced Mental Health Support: I’ll advocate for well-being workshops, e.g. yoga, lifting or running groups, to relieve stress and foster better inter-group connections, building a supportive and interactive community.
I am dedicated to creating a stronger, more inclusive department. Vote for me, and together we can make a meaningful impact for all PG students in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial.
