Hi everyone! My name is Sophie-Marie and I was one of your Acadmeic Representatives last year.
This year I aim to:
1. Improve the transparency and career guidance offered within our department to demystify the future of Biochemists and remove the lingering stress we all experience. I want to continue my work from last year to encourage information to be available proactivly for us all.
2. Solidify relationships between cohorts to create a close-knight community of Biochemists, as well as branch out to further London universities to form a Biochemistry network where ideas and opportunities can be exchanged.
3. Be a figure of trust and understanding that you can approach at any time to share concerns, improvements and postives to ultimately cultivate a collaborative, empowering and supportive cohort.
One of my main advantages, is an understanding of how the Student-Staff Commitee opperates, specifically the Life Science leadership team. Having attended numerous meetings with them and engaged in various discussions, I have optimized the best strategies to communicate our wishes/improvements most effectively for maximum change. This is what allowed us to achieve better spaced-out coursework deadlines for this year!
Additionally, I was one of the driving forces for honest and continuous comminication between you and last year's convenor Dr. Mansfield. If you ask her, she will tell you that she rarely worked with representatives that were as transparent and proactive as we were.
A vote for Sophie-Marie is a vote for the best education and university experience Imperial has to offer!
