Abigail Tan
Hi everyone! My name is Abigail / Yun Hui and I am running for Vice President of Respiratory Medicine society. I find respiratory medicine is an interesting field, having learnt it in BRS and seeing its vast applications in clinical procedures like chest drains or spirometry. Therefore I would like to serve in the committee of Resp Soc.
I was previously Vice-President of a nursing home volunteering programme, where I guided volunteers to plan activities catering to specific needs of the elderly. I helped to facilitate committee meetings on the direction and planning of the programme, while liaising and coordinating with volunteers and nursing home staff. These faciliation experiences would prepare me to coordinate with RespSoc members, delegates and committee effectively.
I was on subcommittee for iPRAS and Surgical Society, where I helped to acquire items needed for conferences and helped with the set-up/ cleanup during conferences. In addition, I helped to welcome some of the speakers/ demonstrators. I believe my experience in organising conferences will be an asset to RespSoc.
This year, I am the female lead character in the Singapore Society musical, and I have performed at multiple events for ICSM Choir and Chamber Choir. These performance gigs have honed my confidence and have taught me the value of constant self-improvement, which are key qualities for a leader. Juggling all these commitments in medical school over the last year has also developed my time-management skills, which would enable me to serve wholeheartedly as Vice President of Respiratory Society.
