Engineers Without Borders UK: Vice-President

Hello everyone! I’m Damla, and I’m the current VP and running for the same role again!

I am a third-year Chemistry student, thus, concrete proof that EWB is not only for engineers :)

EWB is very significant to me as I’ve been a part of committee from establishing society to freshers fair to our big events for three years. I’ve worked as Vice-President, Chief Ideation Officer and Director of Outreach Activities. Therefore, I'm experienced at leading projects/events and working with Union.

For the last three years I ..

  • Organized and led our biggest event as part of Great Exhibition Road Festival, which is a sustainability-focused workshop engaging 250+ people from all ages and backgrounds
  • Will lead another workshop at GERF this year collaborating with Royal Society of Sculptures
  • Organized outreach workshops in underprivileged schools in Kent and Brixton
  • Created a community with like-minded people from different EWB Chapters at UCL, Oxford and Cambridge
  • Organized cross-university social events
  • Created resources for members stepping into their sustainable future

As stated in our newsletter, I’m “complete guide to embrace feminism,” planning more events and opportunities to empower women and non-binary in STEM and sustainability.

Next year, I'm aiming for more...

  • Workshops/talks to acquire the necessary skills for job/PhD applications
  • Hackathons/designathons/ideathons and real-life engineering projects to apply these skills
  • Networking opportunities for our like-minded people from Imperial and other EWB chapter
  • Sustainable social events

I would really appreciate your vote! I'm looking forward to being part of EWB committee next year:)
