Endocrinology: Secretary

Hello! I'm Aishah and I’m running for secretary. As a medical student living with chronic endocrine health conditions – like PCOS and hypothyroidism – and having family members with diabetes, I possess a deep understanding and passion for endocrinology and its systemic impacts upon the body. My firsthand experience has provided me with a genuine motivation to learn more and spread awareness about its significance.

Being secretary requires skills in communication, organisation, and time management, which I’ve shown by working as a clinical research scientist during my gap year. I worked under pressure to meet a daily quota of booking patient appointments, plus communicate responsibly with patients and GP staff to ensure patient safety was prioritised. I also maintained strict confidentiality while diligently entering data for analysis.

Other skills needed include leadership, commitment, and teamwork. My current roles as the representatives for both the Horizons Department and Spanish Languages have given me these. I have chaired meetings, taken meticulous minutes, and collaborated with colleagues to manage a team. Furthermore, I’ve created and distributed feedback surveys via email to 300 students and liaised with staff members to implement programmatic changes.

If elected, I will advocate for under-researched diseases and women’s health, enhance engagement through newsletters while protecting data, and support the organisation by taking minutes and working as a team. With my skills and enthusiasm for endocrinology, I’m confident in my ability to excel as secretary. I’d be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to create a noticeable difference.

Thank you!
