Elakya Saravanakumar

Hi, my name is Elakya, I’m a second-year medical student and I am running for the role of publicity officer for Psychsoc.

I want to be publicity officer because I believe psychiatry is an under-recognised discipline and I want the society to reach out to as many people as possible. After being a member and follower of the society’s Instagram, I have learnt a lot about the society and feel that there are areas in which I can help to elevate the society’s public outreach even more.

As publicity officer, I would design and upload more regular Instagram posts. Something that I think would engage the society’s followers is a weekly Saturday post about something psychiatric related under the hashtag ‘PsychSaturdays’. I also believe getting as much engagement from our Freshers stall would really boost the society’s outreach. Having merchandise for people to take home and getting other societies around the Freshers’ fair to repost with our poster are 2 simple things that would make a big difference.

In my final year of school, I set up and ran my school’s alumni association’s Instagram and Twitter account. This involved designing engaging posts and stories as well as promoting the social media pages at various events. Having done this, I know being publicity officer is a role in which I will thrive in and put my all into. I would love to be given the opportunity to help the society grow bigger!
