Sudharshan Palaniappa

Hi everyone! My name is Sudharshan, and I am a second-year medical student who is excited to be running for the position of Academic Officer in OncoSoc.

I first attended OncoSoc’s Surgical Oncology Conference last year and developed a keen interest in the field while being inspired to become more involved in the society. This prompted me to join the subcommittee this year and I contributed to the running of the conference while learning more about the society. As Academic Officer, I discovered that I could be exploring my passion for oncology and also that for medical education as I am committed to fostering learning and collaboration.

In this role, I would be organising educational events such as tutorials, workshops, and journal club sessions frequently. Having a speaker series with oncologists offering career tips would also be very useful for members. In organising the conference, I would be dedicated to looking for speakers who are engaging and are the frontrunners in their area of expertise. I have been in the committees and subcommittees of multiple societies and have gained extensive experience in networking and sourcing for speakers. The organisational and leadership skills I have developed would also help me run the other above-mentioned initiatives.

Beyond these experiences and skills, I am most excited to bring my passion and commitment to this position, ensuring that I can overcome any challenges and work for the society to the best of my abilities.
