Alexia Martin

Hi everyone,

I’m Alexia (Lexi) and I am running for 1s captain! My time at imperial is shorter than most others in the club, therefore in my 3/4 years I want to make an impact. I know this squad has the capability to reach promotion in LUSL and BUCS leagues again next season, this is one of my aims along with increasing netball participation at a competitive and social level across ICSM.

Joining the 1s this season (aka mary’s munchkins) has been such a positive experience and I believe I can continue the encouraging and supportive atmosphere, whilst maintaining a strong awareness of the team’s strengths and weaknesses to be able to adapt on court.

As I’ve seen this past season, organising the weekly matches and team sheets can be challenging (especially around exam season and weak ankles) therefore my aim for the 1s will be to recruit more players and build a larger squad with reserves or rotational match selection where necessary. I have an idea for this to be possible with a unified Imperial first team between medics and IC. Both teams struggle to get promoted because players are divided, therefore this would allow for more flexibility and everyone to play at a higher level.

Lastly, team bonding is a vital part of ICSM netball (as we are all aware), therefore I look forward to celebrating the wins with the team in style each week at sports night ;)
